In the United States alone, a woman is beaten every 15 seconds, with two in five women who are murdered killed by their husbands or boyfriends. Although there are situations where a woman beats a man, over 95 percent of all domestic battery and violence cases involve a man beating a woman. Domestic battery, violence, and abuse do not often happen suddenly; the abuse usually becomes more frequent and severe over time. Domestic battery, abuse, and violence can happen anywhere at any time. The abuse can also happen to anyone, no matter what social class, race, status, or educational background.

What is Domestic Battery?

In the State of Illinois, the most common types of domestic battery include causing bodily harm to a family or household member or making physical contact in a disrespectful nature. Family or household members can include, but is certainly not limited to, the following:
